That's exactly the start to this year's Women's Ashes that Australia would have wanted, they cruise to victory over England to claim the first ODI at North Sydney Oval. After being sent in to bat, the visitors appeared to be in a strong position at 2/92 after 19 overs and scoring freely. However, a brilliant spell by Ash Gardner (3/19 from 6.1 overs) halted all momentum and England struggled to build solid partnerships through the middle overs. The Aussies cleaned up the tail, taking 4/34 to roll their opponents for 204, which despite the pitch offering spin and bounce, always looked well below-par. Captain Alyssa Healy steered most of the run chase, scoring 70 off 78 with 11 boundaries so the chase never got out of hand. She was well-supported by Ash Gardner, who completed a Player of the Match award-winning performance with 42 not out to see it home for Australia. Ultimately England's shot selection cost them the two points here, but they won't have to wait long to try level the series as the second ODI will be played on Tuesday. Catch you next time.
