Over 20. 1 run. Bowler: Amy Edgar. Sydney Thunder Women: 97/10(rr 4.85)
19.3Edgar to S BatesW
Wicket. OUT! Bowled. Amy Edgar to Samantha Bates. Half volley, driving, missed. The Scorchers bounce back from a crushing defeat on Sunday with an equally commanding victory tonight against the Sydney Thunder, they win by 74 runs. With the ball, the Thunder had a good middle period, restricting the Scorchers to 4/120 after 16 overs, but the visitors exploded from there, scoring 51 runs from their last five to finish with 7/171. That change in momentum was led by Sophie Devine (48 off 34) who was the top scorer for the innings. The Thunder's batting innings proved that losing early wickets is extremely costly in this format. After they lost both openers in the first three overs, Litchfield and Knight attempted to rebuild but neither made it to the halfway point. With their ever-reliable top order back in the shed, the Thunder struggled to find the boundary and consequently watched the required run rate increase constantly. They were ultimately bowled out for just 97, their lowest total of the tournament. Chloe Ainsworth was the pick of the bowlers, snagging the wickets of both openers while conceding just 15 runs. It was a spell that deservedly earned her the Player of the Match award tonight. The Scorchers will be proud of how they bounced back after a disappointing result last weekend while the Thunder will have some thinking to do before their next game.
