48.5Hatcher to A TyeW
Wicket. OUT! Caught. Liam Hatcher to Andrew Tye. Full toss, driving, Played in the air under control to deep point, caught by Salzmann. What a game to kick-off the men's domestic season! New South Wales beat Western Australia by 8 runs. In his first game for his new state, Josh Philippe did the damage with the bat, scoring 139 off 119 deliveries at the top of the order in a Player of the Match performance. Matthew Gilkes' contribution of 41 and Tanveer Sangha's cameo of 26 not out off 14 elevated the Blues to 9/287 from their 50 overs. WA looked to be in cruise control at 3/167 in the 30th over and 5/234 in the 41st until Ashton Turner was caught on the boundary for a well-made 41. Richardson, Kelly, and Agar all fell within 2 overs of each other, leaving it up to the final partnership to score 28 to win. They were on track, needing 9 from the last 8 balls until Will Salzmann took a screamer of an outfield catch running back, looking directly into the setting sun and holding on to seal the win. A fitting ending to a thrilling battle. Thanks for following along.
